Book Donation Programs
Each year we tend to do additional book donations. These are dependent upon our financial reserves, as well as our supply of gently used books. We will update our needs on the "Get Involved" page throughout the year.
The Birthday Book Club program was launched in 2016. Our goal is to provide each student at participating Davenport Title One elementary schools with a new book of their choice on their birthday. Students with summer birthdays may receive their book on their half birthday or prior to summer break.
In our inaugural year, all students at Monroe, Buchanan, Fillmore, Washington and the kindergarteners at Hayes received a new book. We were thrilled to celebrate over 1200 kids' birthdays!
Our Book Angel Tree program was implemented in 2016. All students at Monroe were given a tag to write down a specific book they wanted or their interests. A book was carefully chosen and delivered to the classrooms prior to the holiday break. This project was a big undertaking, but the results were worth it! The kids loved their book specially chosen for them.
The past two years, gently used books have provided over 120 Monroe students with a Crate Home Library consisting of 25 books. We also use them to stock our free book stores and create classroom lending libraries.
